Baker Park Bandshell | 12 PM

BE A HOPE ACTIVIST

I come to you today with great concern, as disturbing events continue to occur across the nation and even show face in our own backyard. I am growing even more worried that we are losing our youth. Now, more than ever, something needs to be done. Our society is getting numb to watching our youth and communities turn to violence as a voice or motive. We need more UNITY, HOPE and LOVE to enter into our communities, especially those who have been marginalized, with the message that violence is never the answer. Our youth deserve a community of peace, where all may have the opportunity to live up to their fullest potential, offering them a safe environment to grow and prosper.

I Believe In Me Inc. will be hosting a STOP THE VIOLENCE RALLY at Baker Park on August 6th, starting at 12pm. It is our hope that local foundations, nonprofits, agencies, businesses, churches, workforce development, health experts, trauma specialists and community leaders spread awareness of the various resources that are available within the fabulous community we live in. In hopes to promote peace over violence. Here, we will magnify voices of leaders that can, are, and will continue to make a difference in the lives of our young.

We have a powerful program in store with food, celebrity guest speakers, voices of mothers who have lost their children to gun violence, voices of local leaders, entertainment and much more! On August 6, we will begin conversations, provide resources & solutions, form committees for aftercare for folks that want more information or help and guidance toward better tomorrows; all with a festive touch.

We invite you to join us, tell a friend to tell a friend before a senseless tragedy ends up on your or a loved one's door steps. The greatest time is the present, let's act together!

Anitra “Tootie” Watts grew up in Brooklyn NY and relocated to Frederick MD. At a young age Anitra developed a nurturing demeanor, always willing to give and help out where she can. Like everyone else she’s had some obstacles in life, but overcame them by deciding she did not want to be a statistic but a woman who can make a difference in others lives . Her faith was shaken when violence came and took her nephew away who was 2 weeks shy of his 18th birthday. She almost gave in but something kept telling her, you can make a difference if you stay focused, and be a voice to help identify with the pain and suffering of losing a precious young loved one to gun violence. Anitra has continued to be a voice to her children biological and non biological. Throughout life’s obstacles Anitra has proceeded to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration, her goal is to keep our youth out of prison as well as the grave.

Branden Mccallister

As a young man my life has taken many turns. Some have been good, more have been bad. However, it has always been my own choices that have brought these life lessons about. Jails, Prisons, and death followed me around for a long time. Being shot multiple times within two weeks and almost losing my life still didn’t change my ways. It wasn’t until I lost a very dear friend and my son started following in my footsteps that I decided to make a change. But GOD! Times have still been challenging…. My son was shot 11 times, then shot again. He is serving an 18 1/2 year sentence. HOWEVER GOD HAS STILL BEEN BLESSING ME! CANT STOP WONT STOP! This is the life of a hope-dealer! God’s purpose not mine!
